Who Party 14: I Love Robert Shearman

Having three contributors to this blog means that there will be several posts about Who Party. Here's my take: phenomenal. I had a really great time. It was terrific to meet so many Who fans in one place and have serious conversations about a show that so often isn't taken seriously when it ought to be. I found myself in the panel room nearly all day, having great conversations with folks who knew Who so much better than I, and suffering from embarrassment as my Bad Wolf tee shirt placed me in the camp of new Who converts--but I do watch classic, seriously, I do. It is very humbling to be with fans who know the show so well that I can't hope to ever catch up to them.

The highlight of the day for me was finding my new crush: Robert Shearman. He's adorable. He's brilliant. Sitting in on his reading from Tiny Deaths, I was captivated by his prose style--both jovial and disturbing. But I must be careful lest I start sounding like the "pretentious" blurb on the back of his book. At any rate, I really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised to have a conversation about writing process in the middle of a day otherwise devoted to geeking out. I was even more pleasantly surprised to have my offer of sitting down to a beer actually accepted. When I turned up for said beer, Mr. Shearman, my love, my darling, was charming and forgiving when I put my foot in my mouth. I'm dying to consume many pints with this dear fellow, to watch the sun rise while alternating between dirty jokes, masturbatory conversations about authorship and--of course--crude party tricks.

Mr. Shearman, my door is always open.
